example of why i dont make comics very often
FUCKING PERFECT OH MY GOD

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Dan Didio said a
bangerfest comic festival Kapow that DC has changed its policy on making existing characters gay. If you remember Didio was interviewed by the Advocate at the time of the relaunch and discussed this.DC has several…
FINALLY DC. I really hope it’s Tim. I know, he’s been with Steph and Tam and Lynx and some civilians, but it always seemed quite awkward to me. There’s a reason why he’s still a virgin…this might be it?
Arthur trying to make Merlin feel better is so cute. Even though he’s failing miserably x)
LOVE THIS SCENE.
INSPIRATION OF THE DAY: Just got out of comic book class, where we had GREG RUCKA, writer of WONDER WOMAN: DOWN TO EARTH, as a guest lecturer. Such a dynamic dude. He talked about how Superman and Batman can always be reinvented because of their simple back stories, but Wonder Woman will always be complicated for Hollywood/DC because she’s a symbol of feminism.
I asked if if he thought that’s why there’s 0 WONDER WOMAN MOVIES made, even though Supes and Bats have been remade countless of times, and he said that from personal experience, movie makers/ people in charge of DC legitimately believe that their only audience is males ages 18-35. He once had a meeting with some DC people who told him exactly that, and when he said ‘basically you’re excluding 51% of the entire population’, they had no words for him, and that was highly problematic and misogynistic.
I told him I was surprised how backwards their mentality was. Everyone brought up how they loved the Avengers, and he said Captain America was his favorite and he’s not afraid to like ‘sappy’, happy characters like Caps and Superman, and he’s afraid of where they’re going to take the new Superman movie, and said something along the lines of “If I can’t take my little girl to see a friggin’ SUPERMAN movie, if a kid with a cape around his shoulders can’t understand your movie, it’s fucked up.”
I said that’s what DC doesn’t understand: what we really want to see is heart. Feelings. They gave superman blue jeans in the reboot. They took away every single bit of Starfire’s big personality in RHatO. But we don’t want just the gritty angsty stuff. Dark and gritty only works if there’s a MESSAGE behind it, NOT because you think it would boost sales. Comic books shouldn’t be afraid to have feelings.
At the end of the class we had a signing session. I noticed he took longer than I expected to write in my Wonder Woman book, but didn’t read it until I got back. In my book, he signed his name, and also the words: ‘CHARLOTTE: BELIEVE IN THE MISSION.’
You guys, This is what I go to school for :D
Side note: If you don’t want to rip your hair out, READ ALL OF THE GREG RUCKA. He knows what he’s doing.
Another non fandom related piece! Done for my magazine again. The story’s on the internet and the brain :)
